TRAINING

SALARY

Q1. Is there any tax related things with the technical intern trainees?

A.Taxes related to technical intern trainees include national tax (income tax) and local tax (resident tax) on wages. This is a tax that must be paid by a person who lives in Japan and has income.
When paying taxes, the employer deducts it from the monthly salary while staying in Japan and pays it to the national and local governments.
If you return to your home country in the middle of the year, you will have to pay the balance for the year because the annual tax amount has already been fixed.
If you have stayed in Japan for less than one year, these will be treated differently.

Q2. What is tax income?

A.Income tax is deducted from wages according to the amount of wages paid each month, and in December, the amount of tax deducted from the total amount of wages during the year is adjusted, and the difference is collected or refunded.

Q3. What is residential tax?

A.Resident tax is a tax on income of the previous year, the confirmed tax amount will be deducted and paid from the monthly wages after June in 12 installments to the local public entity where you live as of January 1st of the second year.
In the case of trainees, it is basically a special collection method (the company deducts it from the salary and pays it to each municipality).
Therefore, the residence tax will not be incurred in the year of entry, and the deduction will start from the following year. In addition, depending on the time of entry, the annual income itself may decrease, and as a result, residence tax may not be incurred.

Q4. Please me tell me the structure about the social insurance.

A.Social insurance is a national institution that guarantees the lives of members and bereaved families through medical expenses for illness and injury, and payment of pensions in case of death or certain disability due to illness or injury.
(1) Types and benefits of social insurance
· Medical insurance (Health Insurance, National Health Insurance)
Insurance will cover part of the medical expenses caused by illness or injury (70% up to the age of 70) (own expense will be 30% of the medical expenses). Workers’ Accident Compensation Insurance provides benefits for illnesses and injuries caused by work or commuting. In this case, the workers’ accident compensation insurance will cover the entire medical expenses.
· Pension (Welfare Pension, National Pension)
Necessary benefits (Pension Benefits) for old age, disability, and death will be provided.
(2) Employees covered by social insurance
· Health insurance, welfare pension: Corporate business establishments and privately-owned business establishments that employ 5 or more workers at all times (excluding business establishments such as agriculture, forestry and fisheries, inns, and cleaning) are covered.
· National Health Insurance, National Pension: For the national pension, only employees over 20 years old are eligible.
* You (technical intern trainee) must enroll in either “both health insurance and welfare pension” or “both national health insurance and national pension”.

Q5. Please tell me how to process the billing of Welfare pension insurance and the lumpsum of the National public pension.

If you have been enrolled in welfare pension insurance or national pension for 6 months or more and return to your home country without meeting the qualification period required to receive the pension, you can request a lump-sum withdrawal payment before returning to your home country. Please check the requirements for receiving benefits.
As a requirement to receive the lump-sum withdrawal payment, it is necessary that you do not have an address in Japan on the day the invoice is received by the Japan Pension Service, so please submit a move-out notification to your city, ward, town or village before returning to your home country.
If you submit an invoice before returning to your home country, submit a move-out notification to the municipality, such as a copy of the resident’s card stating that you are planning to move out of Japan and the removal of the resident’s card. Please attach a document that confirms that you have done so and submit it to the Japan Pension Organization after the move-out (scheduled) date of your residence certificate.
Those who are planning to become TITP 3 trainees, can request each time they return to their home country after completing TITP 2 and after completing TITP 3. However, please note that if you re-enter Japan before the invoice is accepted by the Japan Pension Service and you have an address, you will not be eligible unless you meet the requirements.

Q6.  I and Mr. B, who work in the same workplace, had almost the same annual income last year, but when I checked the tax payment notice of the residence tax that arrived in June of this year, my residence tax was Mr. B’s. It was almost double the forehead. Isn’t this a mistake? By the way, I’m single, but Mr. B has his wife and a high school boy.

A.Even if the amount of income is exactly the same, the amount of tax will fluctuate depending on the amount of income deduction. Income deduction is to ask for a tax burden according to the actual situation of the taxpayer, taking into consideration on personal circumstances such as whether the taxpayer has dependent relatives to be deducted and whether he / she is spending due to illness or disaster. Therefore, it is deducted from the amount of income, such as social insurance deduction, life insurance deduction, spouse deduction and dependent deduction. Therefore, in this case, it is considered that Mr. B had a dependent relative who was eligible for the deduction, which made a difference in the income deduction amount of the two people, and the final tax amount was different.

PROCEDURES

Q1. What is the year-end adjustments? And what are the neccesary documents?

“Tax withholding” is the collection of income tax from an employee’s salary when the company pays the salary. “Year-end adjustment” is to adjust the “excess or deficiency amount” by recalculating the total amount of income tax that should be collected for one year and comparing it with the total amount collected at the source.

Q2. What is Return tax? What are the neccesary documents?

Resident tax, like income tax, can be reduced by applying for dependents. As a method, year-end adjustment or final tax return is required, and in the case of trainees, parents, siblings, etc. overseas can be dependents.
If you are unable to apply for dependents due to lack of materials at the time of year-end adjustment, you can make adjustments again by filing a final tax return.
If the apprentice did not prepare the materials and did not declare the dependents in the year-end adjustment and final tax return, in June of the following year, the apprentice and the deduction amount of the same period were compared and “Why, only myself?” You may have a consultation saying, “I’m deducted from my salary.”
Even in such a case, you can apply for a final tax return five years back.
